The Gravona river

The Gravona river flows down along the main road going from Bastia to the Gulf of Ajaccio. It distinguishing feature is a combination of pools which can be calm and deep and steep gradient with strong streams (Not in summer, obviously). The pools can be 4 meters deep. These pits allow the trout to get rest during summer, for the Gravona is rather crowdy with tourists in July and August. Moreover the river is near to be dry in summer although some spots remain good enough for fishing.
It’s my favourite river in Corsica.

As soon as the season starts, you can find some spots with active fish. While snow is thawing; it may be possible to find trout rising to the surface but you should use nymphs or wet flies to get a chance of success. In May, fly hatches are great and fishing at dark may be fantastic.

You can find ecdyonorus Venosus that make the trout really loose their mind! These big red ephemeropteras are very easy to see while they are flying for coupling. Thousands of them are drifting down the river and get swallowed by aggressive fish. Nevertheless, it doesn’t mean that trouts would rush on any imitation. In my tying instructions, I offer 2 fly patterns that I use for fishing .
